What We Do

Boorarka brings together teams with the right combination of Indigenous knowledge, expertise and project direction skills, to meet the needs of each individual client.

Managing Director of Boorarka, A/Prof Tuguy Esgin, a Noongar Yamatji man, works with the client and Boorarka’s highly skilled Project Director, to assess the needs of your organisation, business, peak body, or industry and put forward an effective way to respond. Boorarka then identifies the best Indigenous advisers to assist on the project based on their areas of expertise and their availability to meet the project requirements.

We have deep expertise in the application of Indigenous knowledges right across Australia. Our senior Indigenous team members have the highest level of research expertise and academic excellence, observe Indigenous ethical standards, data sovereignty and governance, and are highly skilled in Indigenous knowledge translation.

Indigenous consultants remain at the forefront of the project, supported by the Project Director and the Project Office Support Coordinator, with all work conducted under the auspices of the Supply Nation Certified, registered Indigenous Business Corporation.

You can be assured that we will clearly articulate the scope of what we are able to provide and confirm the client’s requirements at the outset. We are equally committed to advising of any expertise that we are unable to source or activities that we do not believe will provide you with value.

We provide services for:

  • Industry

  • Higher education

  • Government

  • Funding bodies

  • Community organisations

  • Providing Indigenous expertise to lead engagement and mitigate the psycho-social risk of excessive cultural burden on Indigenous employees.

Build the capacity of non-Indigenous leaders to effectively work with Indigenous communities.

  • We can work with you as the funding body - whether a government entity, philanthropic organisation or industry - and with community leaders of funded projects, to design and pilot alternative ways of reporting that are robust but easier to complete, and more meaningful and understandable for communities

  • Indigenous-led co-design with local communities - whether it is for government, industry, community organisations or in higher education. This must be managed by skilled and experienced practitioners who are able to contribute to capacity building at the community level.

  • Boorarka taps into our lived experience - Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing - to develop or advise on the implementation of a transformative Reconciliation Action Plan. We empower Indigenous employees and RAP committee members to become a part of the journey.

  • More and more Australian governments are requiring their suppliers to clearly articulate their Indigenous Participation and Social Procurement Strategies in bids and project proposals. Boorarka can advise on how to strengthen these strategies and drive better outcomes.

  • Inclusive community engagement includes respecting Indigenous cultures and their ongoing connections to land and waters. Boorarka can assist with social license to operate audits and strategy alignment. We can also develop Indigenous-led governance and oversight mechanisms.

  • Using mindfulness exercises such as dot painting and yarning circles to enable participants to reflect on how to de-colonise curriculum.

  • We can provide Indigenous Mentors for Indigenous or Non-Indigenous Leaders

  • Our team includes Indigenous experts with many years of experience with impact assessments and program evaluations.

  • Boorarka’s team includes the highest level of Indigenous academic excellence and we can apply this to development of the cultural learning theories most aligned to your organisational needs.
