Carbon footprint measurement
Oct 2024
It was a privilege to be invited to participate in the Australia Awards Fellowships event on Carbon Footprint Measurement and Carbon Market Operations: Australian and Global Perspectives for Vietnam. Held in Perth and Melbourne from 19 October to 4 November 2024, this fellowship brought together key experts, researchers, and delegates from Australia and Vietnam, facilitated by the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Curtin University.
The discussions were both enlightening and crucial, focusing on collaborative efforts to measure, manage, and mitigate carbon footprints. The exchange of knowledge and strategies to advance carbon market operations promises impactful outcomes not only for Vietnam but also for broader global climate efforts.
Meeting with the distinguished guests and Vietnamese delegates was truly inspiring. It underscored an often-overlooked truth: the critical role that traditional Indigenous communities in both Australia and Vietnam play in sustainable land management. These communities have been custodians of the land for thousands of years, possessing invaluable traditional knowledge that should not only be respected but actively integrated into modern carbon strategies.
To truly address climate change, we must recognise that Indigenous perspectives are not just a part of the solution—they are central to achieving meaningful and enduring sustainability.
